GLOSSARY

Cryptocurrency
A type of digital currency, secured by cryptography, that operates on decentralized networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
At RocketAxis, we understand that the Web3 ecosystem is rapidly evolving, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends, terminology, and technologies is essential for making informed decisions.

To support our partners, investors, and collaborators, we’ve curated this comprehensive glossary of Web3 and memecoin-related terms. This glossary serves as a valuable resource, helping both newcomers and experienced professionals navigate the complexities of decentralized finance (DeFi), blockchain, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and the rapidly growing memecoin sector.

As an investment firm focused on leveraging blockchain technologies, RocketAxis aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the next generation of digital innovation. Our involvement in the Web3 and memecoin space means that we need to speak the same language as the projects we invest in, as well as the communities we serve.
Whether you're a creator looking to tokenize your intellectual property, a potential investor exploring the decentralized finance sector, or someone interested in the rise of memecoins, understanding the key terms is the first step towards effective participation in this new digital economy.

By offering this glossary, we aim to provide clear definitions and contextual understanding of terms that shape the Web3 landscape. This is part of our commitment to promoting transparency, knowledge-sharing, and seamless collaboration in the Web3 and blockchain sectors. Our goal is not just to invest but to enable informed participation and help you unlock the potential of this exciting and transformative technology.
Blockchain
A decentralized digital ledger that records transactions across multiple computers.
Smart Contracts
Self-executing contracts where terms are directly written into lines of code, eliminating the need for intermediaries.
Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
Financial services that operate on blockchain networks, bypassing traditional intermediaries like banks.
Tokenization
Converting physical or digital assets into tokens on a blockchain.
NFT (Non-Fungible Token)
A unique digital asset representing ownership of a specific item, often used in digital art, music, or gaming.
DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)
An organization governed by a set of smart contracts, with decisions made through community voting.
Web3
A new iteration of the web where ownership and control are decentralized, with blockchain at its core.
Layer 2
Solutions built on top of Layer 1 (like Ethereum) to improve scalability and reduce costs.
Gas Fees
Transaction fees paid to miners to validate operations and secure a blockchain, especially on Ethereum.
DeFi Protocols
Decentralized applications that enable lending, borrowing, and trading without intermediaries.
Memecoin
A type of cryptocurrency that is created as a joke or parody, often gaining popularity through viral internet culture, memes, and community engagement (e.g., Dogecoin, Shiba Inu).

Memecoin-Specific Terms

Pump and Dump
A market manipulation strategy where the price of a memecoin is artificially inflated (pumped), often through social media or influencer hype, before being sold off (dumped) for profit.
Meme Coin Culture
The unique ecosystem surrounding memecoins, driven by humor, social media influence, and community events rather than technological innovation.
Liquidity Pool
A pool of tokens held in a smart contract to facilitate trading on decentralized exchanges (DEX) for memecoins.
Token Burn
The process of sending tokens to a wallet where they are irretrievably lost, often used to reduce supply and potentially increase scarcity.
Rug Pull
A scam in the memecoin space where the developers abandon the project, taking all the funds from investors.
Whale
A person or entity that holds a significant amount of a particular cryptocurrency, potentially capable of manipulating the market for that coin.

Blockchain & Token Mechanics

Tokenomics
The economic model and structure of tokens within a project, including their distribution, utility, and incentives.
Staking
Locking up tokens in a blockchain to support network security or participate in governance, often earning rewards in return.
Validator
A network participant responsible for validating transactions and securing the blockchain, especially in Proof of Stake (PoS) networks.
Proof of Work (PoW)
A consensus algorithm where participants solve complex problems to validate transactions and secure the network (e.g. Bitcoin).
Proof of Stake (PoS)
A consensus mechanism where validators are chosen to create new blocks and validate transactions based on the number of tokens they hold and “stake".
Whitelisting
The process of granting early access to specific individuals or wallets to participate in an ICO, IDO, or token airdrop.
Airdrop
The free distribution of tokens to holders of a certain cryptocurrency or group of users to encourage participation and build awareness.
NFT Marketplace
A platform where users can buy, sell, and trade NFTs, such as OpenSea or Rarible.
Fork
A change in the blockchain protocol, creating a new version of the network with different rules.
Bridge
A system that allows tokens to be transferred between different blockchain networks.
Decentralized Exchange (DEX)
A platform that allows users to trade cryptocurrencies directly, without intermediaries, using smart contracts (e.g. Uniswap).
Metaverse
A virtual world that integrates decentralized assets, NFTs, and blockchain technologies, creating a shared online space for work, entertainment, and socializing.

Web3 Ecosystem & Interoperability

Interoperability
The ability for different blockchain networks to interact and communicate, allowing for seamless asset transfers and data sharing.
Cross-Chain
The capability of transferring assets or data across different blockchain platforms, often via bridges.
Decentralized Identity (DID)
A self-sovereign digital identity system based on blockchain technology that gives individuals full control over their personal data.
Gaming NFTs
Non-fungible tokens used within blockchain-based games to represent in-game items, characters, or assets, enabling players to have true ownership.
Play-to-Earn (P2E)
A model where players earn cryptocurrency or NFTs through gameplay, increasingly popular in Web3 games.
Virtual Goods
Digital assets that can be bought, sold, or traded within virtual environments or platforms, often tied to the metaverse or gaming ecosystems.
Web3 Wallet
A wallet specifically designed for Web3 applications, allowing users to manage cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and interact with decentralized applications (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet).
DAO Governance
The decentralized decision-making process within a DAO, where token holders vote on proposals and major project decisions.
